Hunter Freeman traded to Toronto
September 12, 2008 (Official Press Release)

Red Bull New York announced today that it has traded defender Hunter Freeman to Toronto FC in exchange for a third and fourth round pick in the 2009 MLS Supplemental Draft.

"We want to thank Hunter for his service during his time here in New York. Hunter has informed us that he wants to experience the challenge of playing overseas next season and we felt that this deal gives us roster flexibility moving forward, opening up our options as the league transaction deadline nears." said Sporting Director Jeff Agoos.

Toronto FC retains Freeman's rights until December 31, 2009. If Freeman returns to the league before or on that date, Toronto FC will give New York its second round 2011 MLS SuperDraft pick. If Freeman returns after December 31, 2009, New York retains Freeman's MLS rights and would not receive compensation by Toronto FC.

This season, Freeman played in 14 games and made 10 starts, earning one assist. The Allen, TX, native was acquired by New York on March 23, 2007, from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a third round pick in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft and a fourth round pick in the 2009 MLS Supplemental Draft. Last year, Freeman tallied a goal and an assist in 16 appearances.
